What we keep and why
Version 2026-09-22. Applies to the Tribe Pics app and tr83.com. Run by Walter Albrecht, Texas, United States.
The short version
We keep the minimum needed to run a private photo-sharing app: your name, email, avatar choice, the photos you add, and enough device and error information to keep things working. Your photos are seen only by members of the tribes you add them to. We do not sell data, show ads, or track you across other apps or sites.
What we collect
- Account: your name, email address, avatar choice, and the date you accepted the terms.
- Photos: the photos you add, at full resolution, plus the smaller versions we make of them for viewing, and the metadata in the file such as when it was taken. Location data embedded in photos is not read or shown, but it stays inside the original file that other members can download.
- Tribes: which tribes you belong to, when you joined, who invited whom, and counts.
- Devices: for each signed-in phone or browser, a session token, the platform, app version and when it was last used, so you can see and sign out your devices.
- Technical: server logs with IP addresses, and error reports when something goes wrong. These are used only to keep the service running.
- Reports and blocks: what you reported and who you blocked.
- Face data (optional): if you add a selfie under Find me in photos, we keep the selfie and a set of numbers that describe your face, the date you agreed, and which photos you were found in. For photos in tribes where the feature is switched on, we also keep the position and a description of each face the software finds, without a name, so that opted-in members can be matched. These descriptions are deleted when the photo is deleted or the tribe closes.
We do not read your contacts, your location, or anything on your phone beyond the photos you choose to add.
Why
To let you sign in, show photos to the right people, send the emails the service needs (sign-in codes, one welcome note, invitations, the closing warning, reminders your organiser sends, report outcomes), keep it working, and handle abuse. Nothing else. We do not build profiles or use your data for advertising.
Who sees what
- Members of your tribes see your name, avatar, the photos you added and when, and can download them at full size. If you added a selfie, they also see your name on the photos you were found in, in tribes where Find me in photos is on, and can filter to those photos. Your selfie itself is shown only to you. The organiser also sees your email address. An organiser who types in your email address can add you to their tribe straight away; you get an email saying who added you, and you can leave the tribe or block them at any time. Nobody can add you back to a tribe you left.
- Brevo (our email provider) receives your email address and the content of the emails we send you. Nobody else receives your data.
- Apple and Google may collect the usual app store and crash data under their own policies.
We share data with authorities only when the law requires it.
Where it lives
On servers we run in the United States. Photos are stored outside the web root and are only served to signed-in members of the tribe.
How long
- Photos: until the tribe closes, 90 days after it was created, or until you or the organiser delete them. Then they are deleted from disk.
- Account: until you delete it. Deleting removes your photos, memberships and account.
- Logs and error reports: about 90 days. Email logs about 180 days.
- Accounts that never verified their email: deleted after 48 hours.
Your choices
Change your name and avatar, sign out devices, block people, remove your selfie (which deletes the face description and every match) and delete your account from Settings in the app or on the web. Email support@tr83.com to ask what we hold about you or to have it removed; we answer within a few days.
Children
Tribe Pics is for people 16 and older. We do not knowingly keep accounts for anyone younger; tell us and we will remove one.
Changes
If this policy changes in a way that matters, the app will ask you to accept the new version.
